Nicholas is a saint who lived in the 4th century, and it is considered throughout the world children’s patron. On the night of December the 5th, the saint together with its black assistant, called Ruprecht, descend from the sky on a donkey and bring presents to all the children who have behaved all the year round and a rod, respectively, to all the children who, on the other hand, have misbehaved, as warning.

Saint Nicholas, unlike Santa Claus, never shows himself. He only leaves the presents in the boots or the socks hung at the window for the children to find them.
