This holiday is held each year on February the 2nd, and children in particular live it to the full. They go from door to door holding lanterns and they sing Saint Blasiu’s carol. The lines of the song prove the holiday used to be, a long time ago, a holiday of the poor, who used to beg for lard, peas or biscuits. Similar to plenty other traditions, neither did the customs of the Holiday of Saint Blasiu maintain intact. Nowadays, children go caroling while being supervised by their parents and, despite the fact they also are rewarded with sweets, most of them appreciate it more when they are given money.
